Abraham was promised by God…
… that he and Sarah would have a son. But many years went by and out of desperation, Sarah allowed Abraham to have a child through her maidservant, but it did not fulfill the promise. It was only when Abraham was 99 years old and the son he had with the maidservant was 13 years old that God repeated that promise to Abraham on condition that he keep a covenant with God by circumcising himself and every male in his family. It was only after Abraham faithfully fulfilled the covenant of circumcision that Abraham and Sarah were able to give birth to the son they had been promised.
Many believers know today, even though they have faithfully fulfilled their responsibilities to love and serve God, they are not satisfied they have birthed the promise of all things made new in Christ Jesus. Then we repeat the mistake that Sarah made to Abraham in sleeping with her maidservant. The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it. We must fulfill the covenant of circumcision if we want to experience the true birth. Circumcision is the removal of anything in your life that is not needed to produce new life.
Jesus challenges
us that if we want to be more than one of His fans
we must
“deny our self and take up our Cross and follow Him.”
“Unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it produces nothing.”
If we love anything or anyone
that God has given us in this world more than Him,
that determines our destiny.
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
